Post subject: Site inaccessible to certain people
PostPosted: Sat Jun 03, 2006 7:39 pm
I started a site about a week ago and it seems to have been running fine, but for the past 2 days or so, some people I've talked to haven't been able to access the site at all (the connection times out) while others can view it just fine. What could be the problem?

Make one of these people run a traceroute (tracert) command to your subdomain/domaina and provide the result.

It happens to some of my friends too (in Mexico) they haven't been able to access my website for days (just recently). They can access the freehostia index page, but not the forum.

Here's the traceroute result for one person:
Code:
Tracing route to eventhorizon.freehostia.com [64.72.112.14]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

  1     1 ms     1 ms   <1 ms  192.168.2.1
  2     *        *        *     Request timed out.
  3     *        *        *     Request timed out.
  4     *        *        *     Request timed out.
  5     *        *        *     Request timed out.

He seems to get that result for other sites as well, though the rest of the web works fine for him. Would it be a problem on his end? He was able to get to the site just a couple days ago.

My advise is to open a trouble ticket and explain the problem in the ticket. Provide a traceroute and the IP of the computer that has problems accessing your site.

Well, whatever the problem was, it cleared itself up and it's working fine now.
