Hi,

I have a my own domain which is currently being hosted free here.

What is the best way to have someone contact me through the site?

Leaving just my email address on a webpage is an invitation to spammers

Any ideas?

Dave

Hi Davestite,

Usually what I do is create a page with 3 boxes, Name, Email. Message. Then store this in a database and remember to check it regularly.

If you want a hand creating it I will help you.

Josh

Hi Josh,

Thanks for the reply, and the offer.

If I understand correctly you mean a person would enter in their details into these fields and then, I would have to log into freehostia and check the DB to see if anyone sent me something?

Dave

P.S. I am using that count up script you helped with me on the template of the site. Great stuff!

Hi Dave,

Thats the basics of it, however you could have something that wouldnt require you to login to freehostia but a seperate page that would have the controls you would need, you would then need to email them back. The other option is to create a separate email address and get people to contact you via that.

Unfortunately you cannot send email via php on a free account, that would be the perfect solution.

Josh

Hi Josh,

I don't think I could handle creating another email address and leaving it out there. Spam would do my head in! I think that would be a problem there, even with a new address just for the site?

OK the form. Before I ask for help :D What about one of these widget things? like http://kontactr.com ? But I always get suspicious over free things like that. Not sure if I have to login to their site or to retrieve? If I did it defeats the purpose.

If I do then I will go with your idea of a contact form?

Dave
