Hello,
I understand you have disabled mail functions, and I fully understand your reasons.
But still, I'd like to know why using an external SMTP server (in phpBB, in my case) isn't allowed on free accounts. It does work on rare occasions (maybe due to some lapse), so I was wondering if there's any chance to use my own SMTP server with your free hosting plan.

Thanks

You are able to use external SMTP server. The conditions are: to have a domain name hosted with us from which mailboxes will send out emails and also the external SMTP server works with only one MX record because our CP does not allow you to set more than one MX record.

Can I register a domain name with another company (GoDaddy, for example) and use it with my account here?
As for MX records, I'm not sure I understood what you mean. Where would I need to set the SMTP server in the CP?

Yes you can do that, when you register with them you will have to edit the DNS records to

dns1.freehostia.com
dns1.freehostia.com

for your second question wait for an admin.

I know that SMTP is disabled in a free hosting account of FreeHostia, and as I gathered from this conversation, we have to convert the MX Record of our website to gmail's SMTP server in Custom DNS Records.

After looking in this SITE, I can guess that Gmail's SMTP server is
Quote:
smtp.gmail.com.

Using the procedure above, will SMTP be enabled?
