Hello,

I was wondering if I could find the following files somewhere:

mbstring.http_input
mbstring.http_output

I need to find them so I can set them to "pass"

Please create a php.ini file in your scripts folder and add the following lines:

ini_set('mbstring.http_input', 'pass');
ini_set('mbstring.http_output', 'pass');
register_globals = off

Then save the file and also copy it in the script /install folder.

So add those in the PHPBB3 folder in my directory, or in the freehostia file manager?

EDIT: Also where could I find the scripts folder, cause I check the PHPBB3 folder in my directory and there was no "scripts" folder.

When you ask for a "scripts" folder..I think you mean the directory for the phpbb mods, am I right?

Look for a folder named "mods" ...but let me forewarn you that I don't think there are any mods for phpbb 3 yet because it is not yet out for the public.

You can download the "phpBB 3.0.RC1" RC For (Release Candidate)

I'll try what you said and see what happens.

EDIT: I looked for the folder names "mods" but there is no folder there. Should I try installing it in the install folder and see what happens.

EDIT2: I put the file into the install folder and it works I'll see what happens next.

It may be under: templates/"your-template"/mods(or scripts)/

I haven't used phpbb in so long...

I had exactly this problem and the answer suggested by jazzy was correct although it took me a few minutes to figure out how to implement it for phpBB3.

What you need to do is to create a php.ini file with the lines that jazzy said in it then ftp this into your phpBB3/install directory
This then allows the checks to be passed and the installation to proceed .... it is very straightforward after that. I can now get into the admin panel and it does look like a big improvement on phpBB2. Havent had time yet to set things up and make sure everything works as a normal user but then it is only a few hours since I downloaded the files.

I'm guessing that I will also have to put the same php.ini file in the main phpBB3 directory to make sure everything works but I am sure that will be found out later today

Hope this helps

Bew
