I think 'guest' is talking about data exchange between the web browser and the web server which is not a displayed html page.

As far as I'm concerned, I tried to use an AJAX PHP software (XOAD for instance) and it does not work because of this counter.
I think there's no obvious solution to this issue.

I'd just point out that AJAX techniques, beside providing a better user experience, dramatically reduce the bandwith consumption for a web site.
